dog. The whole family can participate in the training sessions, creating continuity in the training methods throughout the family unit. With consistency and positive training, your dog will be able to successfully convert to a new, more desirable behavior.
Dogs never do anything without reason. Absolutely every
behavior they exhibit has a function either physically or
emotionally. While it might not be readily evident what that reason is, there is always one present.

If you are having issues with your dog, we will come and perform a ‘functional assessment’ in order to find the root of the problem behavior. Common behavioral problems include resource protection, jumping, separation anxiety, etc. Our training programs use positive reinforcement methods in order to produce a new and more desired behavior in your dog. The training will be in your home (or where the issues arise). In conjuction with training your dog, we will also create a program for you and your family to follow. This will ensure a long lasting positive outcome for you, your family and your
Though puppies are 'hard wired for some behaviors', they are a blank canvas for the most part, they are shaped by their experiences. There are periods early in their lives where they are more likely to be afraid of new experiences, sights and sounds. They spend their first fear period still with the litter (unless removed early or orphaned), but the second one happens right about the time the puppies are set to go home. How this is dealt with is important to the dog's future emotional health and growth. Private training sessions during this time can help to aleviate fear issues through limited, controlled exposure to new things, always staying under the puppy's threshhold. Once the puppy is past the fear period we can move to group class training sessions in order to further the puppy's socialization and obedience skills.
Puppies learn 'bite inhibition through interaction with the dam and littermates. If the puppy is removed from the litter before this skill is learned, we as humans need to teach this skill.
Rescue dogs and puppies often come with a bundle of issues caused by past experience. How you deal with those issues will go a long ways towards benefiting or detracting from your pet's long term emotional health, as well as affecting how the pet fits into its new family. We will come and perform a functional assessement of any issues you may observe and give you an avenue to positively change the behavior. We will also start your new family member on the road to willing, reliable obedience.

My sessions are a minimum of an hour per session and often times run longer depending on available time for both me and the client, as well as the dog's desire to keep interacting and working. Sessions are broken into small 'mini sessions' between which the dog gets a little break and I can discuss things with the dog's owner. I keep the training sessions fun, interactive and as stress free as possible for both dog and client.
